Chikun Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Kaduna State, on Tuesday flagged-off the distribution of over 68,000 instructional materials to primary schools in the Local Government Area.

The LGEA Education Secretary, Dr Ibrahim Danmaraya said during the distribution ceremony in Kujama that the instructional materials were procured by the 255 primary schools in the LGA.

Danmaraya explained that the materials were procured with school improvement grants from Global Partnership for Education project (GPE), a 21.5 million U.S. dollar World Bank education support programme.

The instructional and learning materials include about 50, 000 exercise books, 5,000 textbooks, 10,000 charts, 3,000 lesson plan books, tables and chairs and flash cards bags.

Others were learning materials, including table and chairs for early child care development.

“I want to say that Chikun LGEA will remain grateful to the World Bank, the Kaduna state government and other stakeholders that working tirelessly to improve the quality of teaching and learning in public schools.

“The grant for the instructional materials and minor repairs given to the schools from the GPE project will greatly boost the quality of teaching and learning outcomes in our schools,” he added.

The education secretary called on the teachers and pupils to make the best use of the materials to encourage the government it its development partners to do more.

Earlier, the Caretaker Committee Chairperson of the LGA, Hajiya Hadiza Yahuza who flagged-off the distribution of the materials thanked GPE and the state government for improving teaching and learning in public schools.

Yahuza, who was represented by the council’s Director Education and Social Mobilisation, Mrs Deborah Mugu, equally thanked non-governmental organisations for supporting the state and the LGA to provide quality teaching.

Also speaking, the Village head of Kujama, Mr Anthony Samari, also thanked the World Bank and all stakeholders supporting education development in the state.

Samari said that such gesture would go a long way in improving the quality of teaching and learning in public primary schools in the state and Chikun LGA in particular.

In the same vein, the LGA School-Based Management Committee Chairman and Parent Teacher Association, Mr Idris Dahiru and Malam Shuaibu Yakubu, equally lauded the support.

They called on other organisations and the orgainsed private sector to emulate the gesture and support Kaduna State Government to achieve its goal of transforming the education sector for quality teaching and learning.
