Gov Fayemi urges corps members to uphold the unity of Nigeria

Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, on Thursday called on corps members to uphold the integrity of the country at all cost, saying ‘the unity of Nigeria is sacrosanct’.

Fayemi made the call at the swearing-In ceremony of 2019 Batch C, Stream 1 Corps members at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp in Ise-Orun-Ekiti, Ise/Orun Local Government Area.

Fayemi, who was represented by his deputy, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, urged the youths to place more emphasis on commitment to nation building over every other interest.

“As you aspire to assume your role as future leaders of our dear country, you must bear in mind that the unity of our dear country is sacrosanct.

“You must, therefore, uphold the integration of Nigeria at all cost.

“No matter the situation be resolute and patriotic as dynamic youths of our nation. Do not allow anything to discourage your good aspiration to making Nigeria great,” Fayemi said.

The governor assured the corps members of his administration’s commitment to promoting policies that would develop their potentials and support them to succeed in life.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Ekiti NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Emmanuella Okpongete admonished the corps members to be good ambassador of the scheme.

Okpongete assured of rewards for any member who contributed meaningfully to the unity and national development of the nation, stressing, however, that erring ones would never go unpunished.

“As a matter of fact, your assessment has started from the moment you stepped into the camp.

“Our overall assessment will either qualify you for an award or punishment at the end of your service year,” the NYSC Coordinator said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that high point of the event was the administering of Oath of Allegiance to 1,851 Corps members by the Ekiti Chief Judge, Justice Ayo Daramola, who was represented by Justice Olusegun Ogunyemi. (NAN)
