The Northern Christian Association of Nigeria, has joined Christians and Nigerians celebrating Christmas 2025, describing it as a sacred season promoting peace, justice, compassion and respect for human life.
This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen on Wednesday in Kaduna, signed by Rev. Joseph Hayab, Chairman Northern CAN and Bishop Mohammed Naga, Secretary General, CAN 19 Northern states and FCT.
The Northern CAN said Christmas also offers an opportunity for sober reflection on Nigeria’s moral conscience and social direction beyond celebrations.
The association commended individuals, community leaders, faith-based organisations and public-spirited citizens for distributing palliatives and supporting vulnerable members of society.
It said such acts of generosity eased hardship for many families and reflected enduring values of love, compassion and shared responsibility.
Northern CAN acknowledged national leaders, security chiefs, and personnel of the armed forces and security agencies for sacrifices in defending lives and property.
It urged them to remain steadfast until insecurity is decisively addressed and Nigerians can sleep with both eyes closed in safety and peace.
The association said terrorism, banditry and kidnapping have caused immense pain, leaving lasting scars on individuals, families and communities.
Northern CAN called for thorough, sincere and transparent investigations into financiers and sponsors of terror prolonging bloodshed and instability nationwide.
It commended the Presidency for designating kidnappers, bandits and violent criminal groups as terrorists, describing the move as strengthening national security.
The association also praised Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for granting clemency to Sunday Jackson, a Christian farmer sentenced to death after a violent farm attack.
Northern CAN said the prolonged trial raised widespread concern, adding that clemency restored confidence in fairness and affirmed the principle of self-defence.
As Nigerians celebrate Christmas, the association urged leaders to uphold justice, equity and rule of law, and citizens to embrace peaceful coexistence and national unity.
It called on Nigerians to remain law-abiding, support their leaders and pray for healing, unity and a safer, more just Nigeria.
