Respect culture, values of host communities, Fayemi tells corps members

Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti on Monday, tasked corps members serving in the state to respect the culture, norms and values of their host communities to foster peaceful coexistence.

Fayemi, who was represented by his deputy, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, gave the advice at the closing ceremony of 2019 Batch C Stream 1 three weeks orientation course for 1,979 corps members.

The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) reports that the event took place at the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp, Emure-Ekiti, in Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti.

Fayemi said the call had become necessary to ensure that the corps members live in harmony with the culture and values of the land.

The governor, who described the youths as the future and hope of the nation, charged them to be law abiding at all times.

“I charge you to channel your youthful energy towards things that will positively impact on the socioeconomic growth of the nation.

“As youths the future of this nation lies in your hands. Be assured that no meaningful contributions by you will go unrewarded,” Fayemi added.

Earlier, in her remarks, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Emmanuella Okpongete, urged the corps members to be good ambassadors of the scheme.

“As you proceed to your new homes for the remaining part of your service , i counsel you to take security matters seriously.

“Do not associate yourselves with people of questionable characters, which can tarnish the good image of NYSC scheme,” Okpongete said.
