No fewer than 1,981 Nigerian graduates on Thursday, took oath to undergo the one-year compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ekiti as service to their fatherland.
Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, while swearing-in the 2020 Batch A corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Emure-Ekiti, in Emure Local Government Area, urged the youth to ensure that Nigeria remained united.
Fayemi, who was represented by the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Michael Awopetu noted that youth should take the lead innovations that would transform the socio-economy of the country.
In her remarks, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mrs Emmanuella Okpongete, restated the commitment of the scheme to ensure the well-being of corps members posted to Ekiti.
“Following the outbreak of Corona Virus, the NYSC scheme has taken a proactive measure to guide against the contraction of the deadly virus by corps members.
“We are in constant touch with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control as well as the Federal Ministry of Health for technical support.
“Infrared thermometers, hand sanitizers, wash-hand containers have been provided in camp as strategy to prevent any threat, ” Okpongete said.
She added that Ekiti Ministry of Health, through the State Government Preventive efforts has equally provided sanitizers and sensitisation leaflets.
She called on the new set of corps members to join in the vanguard to build a better Nigeria.
