No fewer than 2,315 corps members of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ stream ‘II’ have begun their 21-day orientation course in Kaduna.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the registered corps members included 901 males and 1,414 females, with some dislodged from the Federal Capital Territory and redeployed to Kaduna State.

At the formal opening and swearing in ceremony of the corps members on Friday in Kaduna, the state Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Efeke Dadaza, noted that the oath of allegiance administered to the corps members marked a transition to greater responsibility.

She added that the oath or allegiance is binding the corps members to national unity, stability, and prosperity.

Dadaza reminded the corps members that camp life is regimented, requiring strict obedience to rules and active participation in all activities designed to build physical, mental, and emotional capacity.

She urged them to study NYSC publications, including the bye-laws and orientation guide, to better understand their rights, responsibilities, and expectations during service.

The Coordinator emphasised Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme as a vital initiative to equip the corps members with practical skills for self-reliance and job creation.

She commended Governor Uba Sani for his administration’s support, particularly ongoing efforts to improve camp infrastructure through renovations and construction projects.

She appealed for further assistance, including the establishment of a permanent orientation camp, provision of an ambulance, payment of allowances, and improved feeding support for corps members.

The coordinator also acknowledged the contributions of the Ministry of Youth Development and the judiciary for their roles in supporting the scheme and administering the oath of allegiance.

She warned that indiscipline would not be tolerated, while excellence would be recognised and rewarded, urging corps members to remain committed throughout the programme.

Declaring the orientation course open, Governor Uba Sani, congratulated the corps members, describing their participation as a pledge to serve Nigeria and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Sani was represented by the Commissioner, Ministry of Youth Development, Gloria Ibrahim.

He encouraged them to take the orientation course seriously, highlighting its role in instilling discipline, leadership, and personal growth essential for future responsibilities.

The governor reiterated the importance of the entrepreneurship programme, urging participants to take advantage of available training and mentorship to become self-reliant and employers of labour.

He stressed that security is a collective responsibility, advising corps members to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and adhere strictly to all regulations guiding the scheme.

Sani expressed confidence in their potential to drive positive change, stating that the service year would shape them into responsible and compassionate citizens.

He urged them to strive for excellence in all aspects of camp life, assuring them of a rewarding and memorable orientation experience in Kaduna State.(NAN)
