The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Kano State, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has conducted a sensitization programme for students of Senior Secondary School Magwan in Nassarawa Local Government Area.
The event, held on Wednesday, brought together students, teachers, and school administrators to address key societal issues affecting young people.
Topics discussed included discipline, patriotism, respect for authority, drug abuse, examination malpractice, and personal and environmental hygiene.
Speaking at the programme, the NOA officer in Nassarawa LGA, Kabiru Bala, said the initiative was aimed at shaping the attitudes and values of students. He stressed the importance of guiding young people toward responsible citizenship and informed decision-making.
Also addressing participants, NDLEA Fagge Zonal Officer, Danjuma Hassan, warned about the dangers of drug abuse, describing it as a threat to individuals, families, and society. He urged students to avoid illicit substances and serve as positive influences in their communities.
Students were encouraged to reject social vices and focus on hard work and academic excellence, with speakers emphasizing their role as future leaders.
The programme featured interactive sessions, allowing students to ask questions and share their perspectives, while resource persons offered practical advice on the issues discussed.
In his remarks, the school principal, Hassan Danazumi, commended the agencies for organizing the programme, describing it as timely and impactful. He expressed confidence that the knowledge gained would benefit the students and be shared more widely.
Some students who participated also expressed appreciation, noting that the session had deepened their understanding of challenges affecting them and their communities.
The sensitization programme forms part of ongoing efforts by NOA and NDLEA to promote awareness, prevent drug abuse, and encourage responsible citizenship among young people in Kano State.
