FRSC Kaduna commemorates WARSO with call for action on road safety charter day

The Kaduna State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Friday commemorated the 2026 West African Road Safety Organisation (WARSO) Day with a call for effective implementation of the African Road Safety Charter.

The event, held in Kaduna, had the theme: “From Ratification to Action: Implementing the African Road Safety Charter.

Speaking at the event, Engr. Abdul Audu, Senior Lecturer in the Engineering Department of Kaduna Polytechnic and Unit Coordinator, Unit 10, stressed the need for practical implementation of the charter through improved policies, public enlightenment, effective enforcement strategies and stronger collaboration among stakeholders.

Audu said collective responsibility remained crucial in promoting safer road use culture and reducing road traffic crashes across Nigeria and the West African sub-region.

He also urged relevant authorities and road users to support initiatives aimed at enhancing road safety administration and compliance with traffic regulations.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that participants at the event contributed through questions, observations and discussions on strategies for effective implementation of the African Road Safety Charter.

The Sector Commander, Kaduna State Sector Command, CC Andrew  Longkam, attended the event alongside Unit Commanders within the Kaduna Metropolitan Area, the Sector Head of Policy, Research and Statistics, officers and men of the Corps, as well as Special Marshals.

In his closing remarks, the Sector Head of Policy, Research and Statistics, CRC Hassan  Sani, appreciated the lecturer and participants for their active participation and encouraged sustained commitment to road safety advocacy.

Sani reiterated the importance of continuous public enlightenment and stakeholder collaboration in achieving safer roads and reducing crashes and fatalities.

The Sector Commander also commended participants for their dedication to promoting road safety advocacy and reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to sustaining public education and enforcement activities across the state.

The programme ended with renewed commitment by participants towards advancing the objectives of the African Road Safety Charter and ensuring safer roads for all road users.
